Whole School wellbeing plan

From Sept GCS will be a health promoting school this new way of doing things is informed by
"Our wellbeing programme
"Directives from DES.
"In consultation with the HSE

GCS is a Health Promoting School and that includes becoming a healthy eating school from September

The changes include

1.Water

From Sept, fizzy drinks and high sugar/ energy drinks are not permitted on school premises.
Unless a student has a medical condition necessitating otherwise, water, fruit juice or milk are the only acceptable drinks on the premises.
In line with the single use plastic ban which came into effect in March , students are requested to bring a reusable water container to school every day .
Water fonts will be available around the school to refill bottles.

2.Food

Your children have good healthy eating habits coming from 6th class.
In an effort to continue those healthy habits in post primary school,  all students are expected to bring in a healthy lunch to school each day.
Sweet energy dense foods are actively discouraged. A list of appropriate foods and whats not appropriate will be on our website
Our canteen is launching a new healthy options menu for Sept. The sample menu can be viewed HERE or click image on the right.

Breakfast
Students attending school on the early buses will have the option of a hot healthy breakfast menu including homemade porridge and a variety of hot and cold dishes.

Friday
Friday only will be treat day in the canteen
We are investigating the possibility of parents frontloading the swipe card on our easy pay system to enable students to buy lunch in the canteen without using cash.

Recycling
In line with our recycling policy lunch box waste is returned to their lunchbox and goes home with them.
