All Ireland History Quiz Winners April 2015
The History teachers and students of Gorey Community School were thrilled
last week when the Junior Quiz Team won the prestigious finals of the
Junior Cert History Quiz in Dublin; the first time the same school has
managed this in two consecutive years. The school is getting used to
Double History as last year both the Senior and Junior teams won the title;
the Leaving Cert team was pipped at the post this year by one point!
The Junior Cert team however was victorious, again consolidating Gorey’s
place as one of the best schools to study History in the country. The team
of Rebecca Gleeson, Aisling Cullen, Chantelle Esper and Eoghan Kennedy were
leading from the start of the competition, sometimes just one point ahead
of the eventual runners up, Loretto Bray. Accompanied by two of their
teachers to the competition, Ms Liz Russell and Ms O’Malley-Moore, all the
History team back in Gorey was eagerly awaiting news of the event. Principal
Mr Michael Finn immediately sent his congratulations to the gang, all
preparing for the Junior Cert exams in June, saying: ‘I am absolutely
thrilled; what an achievement, two years in a row. Congratulations to the
students and teachers involved in this remarkable feat’.
