Gorey Team pipped at the Post!
Gorey Community School’s Senior Quiz Team came within a hair’s breadth of
repeating last year’s outright victory in the History Teachers’
Association’s Annual Senior Schools Quiz.
The team blazed ahead, answering questions in rounds such as Women in
History, Battles, Nicknames, the Inter-War Years and a sticky round on
famous (and not so famous!) quotations. Tensions mounted during the last
two rounds when the Gorey gang were neck and neck with St Joseph’s
Secondary School from Rochfortbridge and Terenure College. For the last 3
questions there was everything to play for. A question on Hannah Sheehy
Skeffington robbed Gorey of its winning streak, coming in just one point
behind eventual winners, Rochfortbridge. Nonetheless, Gorey’s History
team’s second placing in this annual competition did nothing to dent the
school’s reputation as one of the best History Quizzers in the country!
