Gorey Community School's high-octane production of the smash hit musical 'Grease' had seven sold out performances, standing ovations, and repeat viewings at Gorey Little Theatre.
Roy Forrest as Danny and Roisín Timmons as Sandy led a hugely talented cast of over 60 students on stage. Their top-of-the-class performance was backed up by fellow students and teachers behind the scenes and front of house.
'
There was a great atmosphere and great enthusiasm on and off the stage,' said a spokesperson for the school.
Former student Megan McEvoy did a fantastic job with the choreography, with the T-Birds' dance number with the car on stage being a particular highlight.
Director Clodagh Cecil and Musical Director Roisín Dempsey also did sterling work with the cast and crew, making sure the audience got to sing along with all the show's well known numbers.
The T-Birds and Pink Ladies take over Gorey Little Theatre from Monday, October 13, with a preview night, and then running nightly to Saturday, October 18, at 8 p.m., with a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30 p.m.
The students auditioned for Grease in May and rehearsals started during the last week of August. A cast of 65 students will tell the story of Danny, Sandy, Rizzo, and friends at Rydell High, while some 30 students will lend a hand off stage.
Clodagh Cecil, who directed the last four school shows, is back at the helm, while music teacher and former Riverdance singer Roisin Dempsey is Musical Director.
'Gorey Community School gives the movie "Grease" a run for its money with its fantastic energy and exuberance,' said Roisin.
'This is yet another opportunity for the school to showcase its exceptional talent.'
